Sample: 180 prompts, responses collected 2026-08-05 to 2026-08-05 (180 from ChatGPT, 180 from Perplexity, 180 from Google AI Overviews). 36 prompts naming a specific business were excluded from citation counts, per the TOP Score rules. Percentages are the share of that engine's responses containing at least one citation of the domain.
What the data says
This is the category where owning your own answer content pays most directly. The engines are not citing directories or review sites here, they're citing the firms' own guides and claim explainers, so a firm that publishes genuinely useful claims content is competing for the citation itself rather than for a mention on someone else's list. The disagreement between engines is also stark: the firm Perplexity trusts most barely leads on ChatGPT, which is exactly why we report each engine separately.

- 1Citations are not mentions. This page measures which sources the engines link when they answer, not which businesses they name. Who gets named is the TOP Score, and it's measured separately.
